Restrictions
There is only one restriction with the services we provide, and is very simple:
No “gaming the system”. Seriously.
What we mean by that is, no trying to “pull a fast one”; either on us (in a business relationship sense) or with respect to the books themselves.
Why do people try to game the system? Well, they might want to change the profitability of the company, either in the interest of lowering taxes or to make it more attractive to financing. And while they might succeed in the short term, it is no different than lying about who and what you are just to get a girl – the lie can eventually become too big to successfully sustain; with disastrous consequences.
Our name is “By The Book” for a reason – because we strive to build the cleanest, most accurate set of financial statements possible. We can’t do that if you are making attempts to classify personal purchases as business expenses, or padding your expenses with receipts from people outside of the business.
It is only when we have accurate information that we can provide you with financial information about your company that truly conforms to reality. And that, we believe, is what any truly honest business owner wants – an accurate and realistic picture of how the company is doing, so assessments can be made and forecasts built.
And as the old saying goes, proper and accurate financial statements are like the condition of a riverbed – when your boat (your business) encounters low waters (a financial tight spot), all the rocks at the bottom of the river (the questionable transactions on your books) get exposed to beach and possibly even destroy your boat. The fewer questionable transactions you have on your books, the fewer problems you will experience when the financial waters run low, and the better you can spot problems coming when they do appear.
